HAYNAKU-

I found this cool poem format on Miss Rumphius and challenged my students to write one for their Reading Response this week. All haynakus published are written by students and about their books. See Comments.

Unconditionally
Wanting you,
Impossible to stay-away

Keeping
One secret,
I love you.

Fear,
Needs-to be
In control of me.

Life-Threatening
Blood-drinking, pushes
Me into traps.

I
Cant think
the way needed.

Your
Smell makes
My mind cloudy.

I
Know as
Well as you,

The
Possible problems
That might accrue.

But
I'm willing.
Even If your-not.

Nothing
Can hurt
Me as long

As
I remain
In your arms.

Forty
Years ago
I married you.

We
Met at
The local diner

On
Our first
Date I knew,

You
Were my
One and only.

I
Have not
Always been home,

And
My presence
Has been absent

Even
When you
Need me most

Now
It is
Our time again,

You
Said you
Don't regret me.

So
Jane will
you marry me?

Sweethearts by Sara Zarr

How
could you
leave me here?

Here,
in this
place of torture.

You
abandoned me.
Left, without a

trace.
I loved
you, but you

still
left me.
You never even

said
goodbye. Then
you found me.

How
did you
find me here?

Here,
in this
new place, filled

with
people who
love me, who

wouldn't
leave me
like you did.

I'm
sorry, but
the old me,

the
old Jennifer,
is not here.

He is named.

Even
though, he
is short he

Still,

Passion of Playing

Because as
His dad told

Him,
"You are
As big as

You
Think you
Are," so he

Really good at

Basketball.
And when
They play together,

They
Are REALLY
Good at teamwork.

So,
They play

I,
Scarlett O'Hara,
Am still alive.

War,
Although disappointing,
Is now over.

With
New laws,
Things are changed.

Confederates,
Can't Vote,
African-Americans can.

This,
Is not
Fair at all.

Fighting
For the
Plantation with taxes.

Young,
But still,
Fighting for everyone.

Yes,
Its strange,
How things change.

Why,
Can't it,
Be the same?

Wishing,
Things could
Be better again.

So
That I,
Am not alone.

Although
Very unfair,
Forced to support,

Baby,
Two girls,
And two men.

Everything
was all
good and fun.

untill,
she came
to visit us.

Coming
with such
surprise and beauty,

I
adored her
forever and ever.

Then,
she offered
to take me,

to
live and
help her travel.

Again,
everything was
good and fun.

Meanwhile,
she became
the head Gobbler.

Pan
helped me
run from her.

Now,
she is
a feared memory.

The Lovely Bones
(by Alice Sebold)

I
died on
December 6th, 1973

But
My murderer
Still lives on.

My
father has
all the clues

Pieces
Of a
Mysteriously jumbled puzzle

That
he cannot
quite fit together.

Here,
in heaven
i watch everything

Lindsey,
growing up
boyfriend and all

Buckley,
clueless Buckley,
not knowing anything

Heaven
is supposed
to be perfect

But
mine is
absolutely everything but.

Bone,
my brother,
where is he?

Searching,
I look
everywhere for him.

Humans
took him
to someplace unknown

Meanwhile,
I must
keep on going

Running,
to wherever
I wander to.

Eating,
anything,everything
that I can.

Surviving,
cold winters
hiding behind dumpsters.

Living
the life
of a stray.

Wondering
what will
tommorrow bring me.

Mam

and devise strategies

To
get into
the evil labyrinth

she
didn't tell
of "her" plan

To
sacrifice herself
to save us

I
can't believe
I didn't know

still...
I will
miss her so...

She's
the hero
of the story

and...
we all
know she is...

I
Can feel
Something is wrong.

I
Go To
The top-most tower.

He
And I
Find a letter.

It
Explains my
Past and future.

I
Must get
Out of here.

Traveling
To the
Rusty-Ruins is tricky.

I
Do not
Quite make it.

Trapped
In this
Reservation is maddening.

Beloved;
Please stop
Making me worry.

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
(Written in Bella's point of view)

Edward,
I feel
so incredibly alone

What
happened to
our true love?

I
can't make
myself forget you

I
can't let
myself remember you

I
thought we'd
be together forever

I
love you,
and it hurts

This
pain is
like no other

Jacob,
you are
my best friend

My
love for
you is sisterly

Why
can you
not understand that?

Do
not taint
our beautiful friendship

Seeing
the love
in your eyes

Guilt
wells up
in my throat

This
pain is
like no other

Angels and Demons

During
The Conclave,
In Vatican City,

Kidnap
The Perferiti,
And brand them.

First,
At eight,
Kill with Earth.

Second,
At nine,
Kill with Air.

Third,
At ten,
Kill with Fire.

Fourth,
At eleven,
Kill with Water.

Lastly,
At midnight,
Consumed by light,

Destroy

Back for revenge.
